I'thousand a qualitative researcher but haven't conducted many case studies - I am doing a couple at present. I took out Stake'southward book from the library as I liked the idea that information technology took a classic qualitative, constructivist arroyo to instance study inquiry; I was certainly pleased with that. I expected the research question and report writing chapters would exist the near useful to me, but I institute the research question chapter to exist unexpectedly, slightly befuddling. I took out Stake's book from the library as I liked the idea that information technology took a archetype qualitative, constructivist approach to case study inquiry; I was certainly pleased with that. I expected the inquiry question and report writing chapters would be the most useful to me, just I found the research question affiliate to be unexpectedly, slightly befuddling. While he talks a lot virtually issue-based inquiry questions, he gives very few examples of what that means (Though quite a few of examples of what information technology does not mean!). The report-writing chapter was solid though, and presented a few things I hadn't thought almost - like including a vignette.
I thought that replacing a few key concepts (the case, issue, triangulation) with a Greek letter of the alphabet did zero to aid me read through the book. I would think "what was theta again?" and then have to page around and observe that, oh yeah, he merely meant "the case".
I was quite pleased with the chapters on the nature of qualitative inquiry and triangulation though! I have washed a good deal of qualitative research, merely this lays out some of the foundations in some of the clearer mode I've seen. I retrieve the most useful chapter personally was in analysis and interpretation, which both followed through on qualitative fundamentals and also described the uniqueness of case study enquiry.

This volume reads well, and its nice narrative (for the most part) fashion of writing actually gives the reader a good overview of the Case Report method and how to research and write using this approach. It was adequately easy to read through, and information technology would be good to read this again equally you lot embark on your case study. That said, I wish someone would copy edit a petty better, in that location are some (minor) problems with editing that got in my fashion of fully enjoying this :-)
I had to read this book for uni but I enjoyed a little bit more I thought I would. It yet was not my cup of tea, but the writer did a skillful job at explaining at times.
This is a skillful introductory book when someone is simply starting to figure out how to practise a instance study. I like that Sake thinks of it equally art, rather than communicating information technology solely equally science. He has a helpful perspective that is missing if you only read case study how-tos that have a more scientific bent. Example studies are very aesthetic, in that you're telling people's stories, so I appreciated that about this book.
